Our brand new site!

We’ve just had a brilliant new website made for us by the All Blacks of web design.

FullCodePress is an international web design competition where teams from New Zealand Australia and the USA compete to build a website in 24hours for a charity. This year we were lucky enough to be the charity for the Code Blacks, the New Zealand team.

Right from the start, the site was designed with you in mind. We wanted you to be able to really interact with us. So please take a look around the new site and try out all the new stuff, like the Facebook page and the Flickr photos.

The competition was pretty full on, as the guys had to work all through the night to get it finished by the morning. We were there the whole time, making sure they stayed on track.

It was all fun watching the website come together. At 1am the American team ran up and started chanting “U! S! A!” outside the room. Half an hour later, there was an arm-wrestling contest.

In the end though, three amazing websites were made for three deserving charities, including us. Even though the teams were competing, we think the charities were the real winners!

A visit from Te Arawa

Last weekend we hosted a group of kaumātua from Te Arawa for Matariki.

Thanks to our rangatahi who helped to manaaki our manuhiri of kaumātua from Te Arawa who came down to participate in Matariki kapa haka at Te Papa last weekend. We had really good feedback from many of the kuia who plan to come back next year and have asked that we host them again.

The kaumātua showed our roopu that being a bit older doesn't mean you can't join in the kapa haka. It also showed that New Zealand is a small place and the connections between the iwi are much closer than you might think.

Tu Te Maungaroa on top again

In a repeat of 2009, Tu Te Maungaroa took the top spot at the Whanganui a Tara regional kapa haka competition. Event spokesperson Sandy Barr says the strength of reo in the mainly Tuhoe Tu Te Maungaroa team made them the clear winners.

The next stop is Te Matatini in Gisborne next year for the 2011 national competition.
